With the EXIST-Women funding programme, Universität Hamburg supports women in founding companies and becoming self-employed. In 2025, ten scholarships will once again be awarded to support women from all disciplines in developing and implementing their business ideas. Applications for the first round are open until January 27, 2025.

These are the requirements for an application

The funding is aimed at female academics, students with a bachelor's or advanced degree as well as graduates and employees with a connection to Universität Hamburg. A concrete startup idea may or may not exist. Funding is also available for ideas that are not based on knowledge or research, but are geared towards subsequent commercial activity. Women who have previously received startup funding from the federal or state governments are excluded from funding.

  • Participation in a 12-month qualification programme for business founding.

  • Individual coaching by the startup network of the university and the Hanseatic City of Hamburg.

  • Entrepreneurial support from at least one mentor.

  • Nationwide network of female founders.

  • A one-off grant of 2,000 euros gross (e.g. for coaching, travel expenses or validation of the startup idea).

  • Optional 3-month grant if you have no income or work a maximum of 20 hours a week, amounting to 1,000 - 3,000 euros per month (depending on qualifications) + child supplement.
