Hamburg is a food city and one of its most important events is the Food Innovation Camp (FIC), which will take place for the sixth time on 17 June at the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce. The conference programme will focus on topics such as food & fitness and the fight against food waste. Visitors can also look forward to an expo with over 80 startups and many culinary surprises in the FIC Show Kitchen.

Well-known names at the FIC 2024

The list of speakers includes a lot of names that are not only familiar to food insiders. From the world of sport, boxing world champion Natalie Zimmermann and former national football players Timo Hildebrand and Marcell Jansen have announced their participation. They will be discussing the importance of healthy nutrition for top sporting performance. Visitors can also get active themselves in a Food & Fitness Lounge.

Nutritionist Dr Matthias Riedl and chefs Christian Rach and Sebastian Lege are well-known from television. Lege will take part in a panel on ways to reduce food waste, while Riedl and Rach will talk about innovative, healthy products with a short list of ingredients. Renate Künast, spokesperson for food policy for the Green Party in the Bundestag, will be part of this panel as well. She will also take part in a discussion on forms of communication that can make a change in diet palatable to the general public.

A regular guest at the FIC is Ralf Dümmel, the most active and popular investor from the startup show ‘Die Höhle der Löwen’. He is one of the judges in the ‘Dein Newcomer 2024’ competition. Over 60 food startups originally took part in the beginning, with three of them eventually qualifying for the final in several stages. The decisive pitch is the final highlight of the programme.

One item on the conference programme is dedicated entirely to the city of Hamburg as a food location. The panel will be moderated by Christine Siegemund, who has created an important meeting point for the scene with her foodlab. Her discussion partners are Dr Annika Schroeder, Managing Director of foodactive, the association tasked with creating the food cluster in Hamburg. Dr Sebastian Rakers, founder and CEO of bluu Seafood, one of Europe's leading startups in the production of fish from cell cultures. And Nils Rupp from the long-established company CREMER, which is doing pioneering work in the development of plant-based meat.
