Hamburg is a historically grown location for mobility and logistics. And the city’s infrastructure is set to grow further, modernise and become home to more and more new start- and scaleups from all over the world.

The Landing Pad is now being created for this purpose: an initiative of Hamburg Invest and Hamburg’s Ministry of Economy and Innovation that supports international scaleups to migrate to the Hanseatic city.

"Hamburg is one of the best places in Europe for innovative young companies, because there is hardly any other place where so much know-how is concentrated in important future technologies."
Dr. Rolf Strittmatter, Managing Director Hamburg Invest

Scaleups that want to come to Hamburg will receive personal one-on-one advice from professional service providers in Hamburg’s innovation ecosystem for their business development, get their local HR needs fixed, are supported in their search for coworking and coliving spaces, and much more. What is unique about this offer is that participating scaleups can select these services from the Landing Pad’s incentive menu based on their specific expansion needs and will receive the benefits free of charge. A generous incentive and service package (worth up to 50.000 Euro) is available for each scaleup, to enable a level of support that goes beyond what competing programs in other cities can offer.

The Landing Pad’s services include:

  • Business Development: professional, top-tier matchmaking of scaleups and relevant business partners, project initiation, piloting and implementation support, connecting to potential customers and investors.

  • Living & Workspace: up to 8 weeks of both private accommodation and office facilities in the centre of Hamburg.

  • HR Services: consulting, scouting, recruiting and joint financing of new employees during the expansion phase.

  • Location Consulting: market and location advice, organisational consulting and administrative support for visa/work permission, insurance, taxes, company founding/registration.

"The advancing climate change means a fundamental transformation for society. In Hamburg, many companies are working on solutions for making the transport of people and goods more sustainable and efficient. The Scaleup Landing Pad Hamburg will make an important contribution to attracting young companies with innovative solutions to the city."

International scaleups in sustainable mobility and logistics that meet the following selection criteria can apply for the offers on the Landing Pad website.

All they need to bring to the table is:

  • a product with proven product-market fit in their home market

  • so far no presence in Hamburg

  • a strong growth phase over the past two years

  • no less than 3 years on the market and no more than 10 years

  • the ability to actively participate in Hamburg’s ecosystem in 2022

An expert jury will select the most suitable candidates from all applicants. The first selection round will take place during August and the Landing Pad support will start from September. In addition, companies that offer sustainable solutions from cross-cutting topics such as artificial intelligence (AI), renewable energies or blockchain can also apply for the programme.

Applications are submitted online via the Landing Pad website.

"We want to attract scaleups from the field of sustainable logistics and mobility to Hamburg, because we are convinced that Hamburg is the right location for these companies to grow."
Johannes Budkiewitz, Project Manager Landing Pad

The Landing Pad is managed by Hamburg Invest on behalf of Hamburg’s Ministry of Economy and Innovation. Their aim is to make the city’s strengths and advantages visible to international scale-ups and to foster innovation and future-oriented projects in Hamburg’s ever growing innovation environment through their participation.

On 21 June at 6 p.m., the kick-off event of the "Launch Event Scaleup Landing Pad Hamburg" project will take place at the Digital Hub Logistics in Hamburg's Speicherstadt and will also be broadcast via live streaming. The kick-off event offers an exciting programme, including a panel discussion on the topic of expansion and scaling in new markets and interviews with the project team. The event will be opened by Michael Westhagemann, Senator for Business and Innovation in Hamburg, and Dr. Rolf Strittmatter, Managing Director Hamburg Invest.
