Urban Data Challenge awards 40,000 euros for data-driven mobility ideas
The Urban Data Challenge Hamburg competition, organized by the City of Hamburg and THE NEW INSTITUTE, is aimed at innovative companies, startups and scientific institutions. Ideas and proposed solutions for the data-driven improvement of cycling and micromobility are sought. The best proposed solution will receive an implementation budget of 40,000 euros and will be tested as a prototype in close cooperation with the Authority for Transport and Mobility Change and the winning team.
Cooperation between the city and private companies
In addition to its own data from its Urban Data Platform, Hamburg is for the first time providing mobility data from its partnership with the companies Bolt and IoT Venture. Bolt offers an app that can be used to access a variety of mobility solutions, from cabs to grocery deliveries. IoT Venture develops and sells GPS trackers that, in conjunction with an app, open up a new kind of service world for e-bikes. Beyond the specific use case on cycling and micromobility, the project sponsors hope to gain insights into sustainable mobility models from the joint use of urban data by the administration and private companies.
The Urban Data Challenge is the first joint project within The New Hanse, after the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg and the future initiative THE NEW INSTITUTE announced their cooperation in the field of data democracy and sustainability on July 1, 2022.
