Hamburg is increasingly becoming a metropolis for the food industry. A food cluster is currently being set up and from 14 to 18 September the Open Mouth Festival will attract culinary guests from near and far to the Hanseatic city for the first time. For the seventh time already, Hamburg Startups will be presenting the FIC Food Award this year. Food startups from all over Germany and beyond can apply with their innovative products. The deadline for entries is the August 16.

Last year the award went to Hamburg

All types of food, including beverages, are eligible. Startups can apply with one product each, which should have a particularly high degree of innovation. A board of trustees made up of industry experts will select three startups from the entries. They will then compete in the decisive pitch on September 26, where a jury of experts will select the winning team. The venue for the finale will be the foodlab. in Hamburg's HafenCity. The foodlab, event location and site of an accelerator, will also contribute one of the prizes to the competition. Other prize sponsors are Rewe Nord with a listing in its supermarkets, the gastronomy wholesaler Chefs Culinar and the organiser Hamburg Startups with its Food Innovation Camp.

Previous winners include Quarkwerk, Heldenbrot, Blue Farm, Laori, Oceanfruit, Basil and Lycka. Last year, vanozza, a startup from Hamburg, won the title. vanozza has developed a vegan alternative to classic mozzarella and is particularly successful in the gastronomy sector.
