On March 14, the final of the STARTERiN Hamburg 2024 startup competition for female founders will take place at the Digital Hub Logistics. The candidates have emerged from a public vote, with the final decision being made by a jury of experts. Competing for the title in three categories are help, Skillbased, jumiwi, PINK! gegen Brustkrebs, hinterland and vollefarben.

Tech category: help and Skillbased

Well over 10 million people in Germany alone suffer from chronic pain. General practitioners and pain therapists are overburdened with treatment, and chronic pain is still largely considered incurable. However, the latest scientific findings show that pain can literally be unlearned under certain circumstances. This is where Dr. Antje Kallweit and Annika Bruhns-Petersson and their startup help come in. They are developing an app with a digital therapy course, the costs of which are to be covered by health insurance companies.

As a rule, a CV is still required for traditional job applications. This makes it difficult for career changers to enter a new profession and limits employers' choice of talent. The startup Skillbased therefore relies on a process in which applicants state their knowledge and skills and these are matched with the needs of the company. Age, gender or nationality do not play a role. Founder Frederika Hornef will present the idea at STARTERiN Hamburg 2024.

Impact category: jumiwi and PINK! gegen Brustkrebs

Anxiety, depression, hypersensitivity - these are just three of the many forms of mental stress that millions of people suffer from. An additional problem is loneliness, the feeling of being alone in one's situation. Founder Chris Gust has experienced this herself and has developed jumiwi, an app that allows those affected to network and share their experiences. The community does not replace medical treatment, but offers a safe place for empathetic encounters.

Prof. Dr. Pia Wülfing has also chosen a topic that affects a large target group. Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women, affecting one in eight women in the course of their lives. A diagnosis is always a life-changing experience, and the need for advice and support is great. The founder knows this from her experience as a doctor and offers PINK! gegen Brustkrebs, a doctor-led online portal that guides those affected through their everyday life with the disease. The app is available on prescription.

Commerce category: hinterland and vollefarben

With her startup hinterland, Johanna Zoern offers Spanish farmers who still work with traditional methods a marketplace. Customers can buy organic olive oil or an entire olive tree on site. The range also includes honey, wine and herbal schnapps. The founder already took first prize at the Gunnar Uldall Business Award in November 2023 with her idea.

High-quality food can also be found in vollefarben's online store, as well as fashion, gifts, books and much more. The founders of the startups from which the products originate are as diverse as the range on offer. They have the most varying cultural backgrounds and find a common marketplace at vollefarben. Founder Sora Mustafa previously worked for an international management consultancy firm.
