Success Stories Startups Ecosystem Hamburg

Hamburg Invest takes positive stock of the program Scaleup Landing Pad Hamburg introduced in 2022 to support internationally operating scaleups. the 13 companies from ten countries selected from 30 applications have benefited in many ways from the services offered by the program. They come from the fields of sustainable mobility, logistics as well as renewable energies.

The program supported the scaleups from Europe, Singapore, Brazil and China in their expansion to Germany and Europe. Due to the very individual needs of the companies, the services offered were used differently in each case, but all proved to be useful building blocks in the expansion.

Matchmaking in business development is a central building block

"We see this as confirmation that personal support and tapping into the local network were the most important success factors for the scaleups," says Sascha Jacobi, Head of the Landing Pad, pleased with the success of the offering. This can be seen, for example, in the matchmaking in the business development module of the program: practically all of the participating Scaleups were able to be networked with relevant business partners in Hamburg.

For further piloting and initial customer projects of the scaleups, the knowledge of the new market and its conditions gained through consulting is also crucial, for which location consulting services are offered in the Landing Pad. Surprising to the program organizers was the brisk demand for housing and office space. "The scaleups have recognized the added value of being on site in Hamburg for local networking," said Sascha Jacobi.

SunGreenH2 from Singapore uses landing pad for partnerships

One example of how scaleups participating in the program have benefited is SunGreenH2 from Singapore. Founded in 2020, the company manufactures electrolysers needed for green hydrogen. It has developed a network in Hamburg and cooperates, for example, with Hysilabs from France, another selected scaleup and hydrogen transporter. After successful customer meetings, SunGreenH2 will return to Hamburg in the spring to present its globally market-leading solution. Hamburg Invest continues to support the scaleup beyond the landing pad.

"We are very business development oriented and go where we see the greatest potential to introduce our technology and expand our business. We share this vision with the Landing Pad in Hamburg. They are very concerned that we talk to the right people here and meet the right partners. So we are here to learn about the market and try to find the right partnerships and pilot opportunities."

Due to its success last year, Hamburg Invest is continuing the Scaleup Landing Pad Hamburg in the new year - with the new application period starting in the spring. "This will be accompanied by an expansion of the focus to include GreenTech, an even more long-term support concept, and networking with other outbound programs around the world," explains Sascha Jacobi.
