After a break in 2023, the Hamburg Innovation Summit (HHIS) will take place again on 12 September. Much is new: the location in the Oberhafenquartier, the presentation in a refreshed design and the holistic approach under the motto "Innovations made in Hamburg - worth sharing with the world". What remains is the networking concept, which brings together politics, business, science, startups and people interested in innovation.
The guiding principles of the HHIS
The HHIS is part of the Regional Innovation Strategy (RIS) for connecting business and science, which the Hamburg Senate presented in 2021. Three principles are at the centre of this: "Strong commitment", "Think big about innovation" and "Bold innovation culture". The HHIS concept "Connect. Collaborate. Create.", on which this year's programme items are based, also pays tribute to the principles of RIS. Thematically, there is not just one focus, such as materials science at the previous event, but a range of technical, social and cultural innovations.
New location stands for diversity of topics
In recent years, the HHIS has been held in the Altona fish auction hall, but with the Oberhafenquartier there is now a multi-venue location that also represents the new, broader approach. Innovation topics will be addressed from different angles on three stages. In the Social Innovation Corner, the focus is on social aspects, while the startup scene makes its appearance on the Start Up Stage. Representatives from politics and HHIS ambassadors will gather on the Summit Stage to give keynote speeches. The event will open with the panel discussion "Business x Science", in which the senators Dr Melanie Leonhard and Katharina Fegebank will take part.
The Hamburg Innovation Awards as a highlight
The stage programme will be complemented by several expos, each dedicated to a specific focus. Exhibitors such as DESY, Future Candy and Startup Port will present innovations from Hamburg and invite visitors to touch and experience them. In the afternoon, Dr Melanie Leonhard will present the audience prize of the Hamburg Innovation Awards. Katharina Fegebank will then honour the winning teams in the IDEA, START and GROWTH categories. In addition, Hamburg's First Mayor Dr Peter Tschentscher will invite the press to a tour of the entire HHIS site. The event will conclude with a Networking Night at the Oberhafenquartier headquarters.
