The fourth edition of the H2 National Summit took place in Hamburg on May 8. At the event, executives from the hydrogen industry met with representatives from politics, science and investment. Hamburg's leading role in the industry was confirmed by the H2-Age Award: two startups from the Hanseatic city, elementarhy and Eternal Power, came out on top in the international competition.

elementarhy reduces the cost of green hydrogen

First place, which included prize money of 5,000 euros, went to elementarhy. The company has its roots in Greifswald (Mecklenburg-Vorpommern) but was officially founded in Hamburg in 2024 because it found better economic conditions here. elementarhy has developed a technology that makes the production of green hydrogen using renewable energy much cheaper and more environmentally friendly than conventional processes. Among other things, this is achieved by saving up to 95% on iridium, a very rare and therefore expensive metal. Initial pilot projects have already proved successful for the startup, and it is now on course for growth.

Eternal Power, which achieved the second place in the H2-Age Award, is also taking this approach. While elementarhy is contributing a handy component for the production of green hydrogen, Eternal Power is aiming for a complete solution. The startup wants to develop, finance, build and operate production facilities, all under its own management and under its own name. The generation of renewable energy is also part of the overall package. There are projects on four continents, in countries such as Chile, Namibia and Vietnam, but also in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
