Gamecity Hamburg prototype funding: 400,000 euros for game developing
Until April 5, game developers, startups and small and medium-sized enterprises in Hamburg can apply for Gamecity Hamburg's prototype funding. The City of Hamburg's funding program provides overall 400,000 euros for game developments in 2023.
More than 1 million euro already received
Since the introduction of Gamecity Hamburg prototype funding in 2020, the program has supported 21 game projects with over 1,120,000 euros. The goal of the program is to promote the diversity and quality of computer games developed in Hamburg. Among the projects funded so far, many have also received follow-up funding from investors or publishers. For example, prototype funding has supported "Wanderful" by indie studio Tiny Roar and "Mambio" by neurodactics.
Funding covers up to 80% of eligible digital game prototyping costs. If cumulation with other public funding programs is sought, up to 120,000 euros can be applied for. Otherwise, the maximum is 80,000 euros.
The conditions of participation
Eligible to apply for prototype funding are individual developers or communities as well as small and medium-sized enterprises that are based in Hamburg, are relocating their headquarters to Hamburg or are opening a branch in Hamburg. To apply for Gamecity Hamburg's prototype funding, interested parties must carefully read the prototype funding guide, the FAQ and the online application form. In addition, a consultation with Gamecity Hamburg is mandatory and should take place at least two weeks before the submission deadline. After the end of the application phase, the awarding committee, which is made up of experts from the games market, will decide on the awarding of the funding based on the applications and a subsequent pitch by the applicants on May 3.
