"Hamburg should continue to be the number 1 logistics world city in the future!" With this wish, Hamburg's First Mayor Dr. Peter Tschentscher ended his speech during the official opening of the new location of the Digital Hub Logistics Hamburg. The event was duly celebrated with a Hub Day and an extensive program.

The Digital Hub Logistics is a Hamburg success story

In 2018, the Digital Hub Logistics started on a rather small scale in the coworking space Mindspace, shortly followed by the move to Hamburg's Speicherstadt. There, under the leadership of Johannes Berg, the hub quickly grew into an important networking point for the logistics industry, bringing together startups, initiatives and large companies. The Digital Hub Logistics Hamburg is part of the Digital Hub Initiative, which, funded by the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection, aims to promote digital innovations in a wide range of industries at twelve locations in Germany.

Plenty of room for innovation at the new location

The Hamburg hub is one of the most successful and now has space to grow further at its new location at Am Sandtorkai 32, also in the heritage-protected Speicherstadt district. A total of 3,200 square meters are available in the former warehouse. These offer 240 places to work, twelve meeting rooms and one large event and workshop area each. Numerous partners from business, science and politics are part of the Digital Hub Logistics network and a total of 85 startups. More than 30 of them presented themselves at a trade fair at the Hub Day on November 8, 2022.

Hamburg is ahead on land, sea and air

In addition, there was an extensive conference program and welcoming speeches such as the one already mentioned by Mayor Tschentscher. He explained what makes Hamburg a world-class logistics metropolis. For example, the Hanseatic city is the world's third-largest location for the civil aviation industry and has a central station that is surpassed in terms of passenger volume only by the Gare du Nord in Paris. As a port city, Hamburg is famous for centuries. In the metropolitan region, around 14,000 companies with about 400,000 employees can be assigned to the logistics industry.

The Digital Hub Logistics can make an important contribution to Hamburg maintaining or even expanding its leading position. This is also the goal of the Logistics Initiative Hamburg, which is the largest network of its kind in Europe with over 500 member companies and institutions. The initiative has supported the hub from the very beginning.
