Beauty tech startup SWAN gets 1,45 million euros in seed funding round
Startup SWAN, founded by Olympic field hockey champion Carlos Nevado and lifestyle entrepreneur Flemming Pinck, has followed up its own beauty app with a compatible smart mirror. This allows users to watch and apply makeup tutorials, as well as record and upload their own videos directly onto the SWAN platform. Investors in the recently completed seed round include Tarek Müller, OMR and Tobias Eismann.
The smart mirror follows on from the free beauty app, which was only released by SWAN in September. The associated platform revolves around interests such as skin and haircare, makeup, and dermatological and aesthetic topics. In an onboarding process, user information such as age, skin type and beauty interests are requested so that the algorithm can then provide suitable content for the respective user. The content of the SWAN platform is produced by experts and influencers from the respective topic areas. In the future, the products used in the beauty tutorials will also be available directly via the platform.
Smart mirror for various applications
With its integrated beauty light, camera, microphone and speakers, the smart mirror is the complement to the SWAN beauty app. A user sub-interface specially developed for the mirror allows users to select videos via touch function, which are then played back via the integrated mirror display. The startup plans to enable additional features such as consultations or live shopping events via the mirror, as well as video calls within the SWAN community.
Co-Founder Flemming Pinck speaks confidently about the market entry of the smart mirror: "We realize that we are hitting a nerve with our innovative Smart Mirror. There is a lot of interest from all sides, no matter if brands, experts, influencers or investors.” On October 14, the pre-sale of a limited number of Smart Mirrors has started. The delivery of the mirrors is scheduled for the end of February 2023.
