atmio discovers methane leaks and receives 1.3 million euros
As a greenhouse gas, methane is many times more harmful than CO2, but has so far played a minor role in combating climate change. The startup atmio offers a solution for detecting and eliminating methane leaks and is starting operations with a funding of 1.3 million euros behind it.
atmio aims to be up to ten times faster
atmio made its first public appearance in October 2023. Back then, the startup founded by Matthias Schmittmann and Marius Krüger came second in the Gründergeist competition under the project name M2TECH. The problem for which atmio offers a solution concerns the supply of natural gas. Leaks occur in the process, resulting in considerable methane emissions. Until now, these have been tacitly accepted or can only be detected using complex procedures.
atmio has now developed a handy measuring device as well as an app and software that evaluates the measurement results. The startup promises that methane leaks can be found and repaired up to ten times faster than with conventional methods.
The two founders already have a lot of experience in the industry. Matthias Schmittmann is one of the founders of the startup bentekk, which developed a gas measuring device and was acquired by the medical technology company Dräger. Marius Krüger previously worked at BP and co-founded the sustainable fashion startup Swedish Fall. HCVC, Robin Capital and Nucleus Capital as well as industry experts such as long-time Dräger manager Bernhard Mohr were involved in the pre-seed financing round, which was endowed with 1.3 million euros. Currently, atmio is already fundraising for the next round.
