About

KfW is one of the world's leading promotional banks. Since 1948, it has been working on behalf of the German federal and state governments to improve economic, social and ecological living conditions worldwide. In 2021 alone, it provided a promotional volume of EUR 107 billion for this purpose. Of this, 33% went toward climate and environmental protection measures. With its financing and promotional services, it is acting in line with the United Nations' Agenda 2030 and contributing worldwide to the achievement of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
KfW does not own any branches and does not have any customer deposits. It refinances its promotional business responsibly and almost entirely via the international capital markets. In 2021, it raised EUR 82.6 billion for this purpose. It employs more than 7,300 people at its headquarters in Frankfurt am Main, its two offices in Berlin and Bonn, and its subsidiaries KfW IPEX-Bank, DEG and KfW Capital. It is represented at around 80 locations worldwide. As a bank with a sense of responsibility, KfW promotes people, countries and institutions that think ahead - and thereby advance society. This profile clearly sets KfW apart from commercial banks.
