Founders with a history of migration are playing an increasingly important role in the German startup scene. Giving them even more visibility is the main task of the nationwide International Founder Award competition. Applications can be submitted until 24 August.

The conditions of participation for the International Founders Award

Building a startup from scratch is hard enough. It is even more difficult for those who come to a foreign country without knowing the regulations, culture and language. The International Founders Award honours the founders who, despite all this, have the motivation and perseverance to build up their company in Germany. In the process, they are given access to a broad network and mentors. The competition is organised by several initiatives from Hesse, but startups from all over Germany can take part. The following conditions apply:

  • At least one founding member is an ‘International Founder’, i.e. a first-generation migrant, born abroad and with personal immigration experience.

  • The startup must be based in Germany.

  • It must not have been founded before 2020, but does not have to have been officially founded yet.

  • The application phase lasts until 24 August.

  • The ten best startups will be selected from 25 to 30 August.

  •  At a boot camp from 3 to 5 September, the candidates will take part in workshops and networking events. Attendance is mandatory. In the end, five startups will be selected for the final.

  •  The final will take place on 11 September in Frankfurt with a pitch in front of a jury and an expert audience.
