Since 2013, the German Startup Monitor (DSM) has provided a wealth of relevant data and facts about the startup ecosystem. It therefore serves as an important source of information for the media and politicians. To keep it that way, active participation is required - the survey phase has just started.

The DSM makes the strengths and weaknesses of the ecosystem visible

The German Startup Monitor 2024 included responses from 1,828 participants nationwide, 125 of whom came from Hamburg. This roughly corresponds to the average participation of the last five years. An increase would be desirable so that the statements made by the founders receive even greater relevance and attention. In Hamburg, for example, the focus is on the financing of startups and cooperation with universities and established companies, where there is still room for improvement. Above-average positive results, for example on early-stage funding or the general quality of life, can in turn contribute to Hamburg's attractiveness as a business location.

The DSM is compiled by the German Startups Association and funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy. All startups that are less than ten years old can take part. They should also be as innovative as possible in terms of their products or services and business models or technologies. Another startup criterion is high growth potential. The survey takes about 15 minutes on average. All data is analysed and processed anonymously.
