The superstars of sports and the really big clubs usually don't have much trouble signing advertising contracts worth millions. For everyone else, Sponsoo's digital marketplace has become one of the most important places to go when looking for sponsors. Now the Hamburg-based startup has acquired Finnish competitor Sponssa to further expand its international business.

Almost 10,000 individual athletes and around 7,000 clubs and teams from over 300 sports have registered with Sponsoo. The selection ranges from local soccer teams to real Olympic champions. This makes the startup the largest European provider in this area. The acquisition of Sponssa was therefore a logical next step.

"We’ve been looking for a smart opportunity to grow in the Nordics already for a while. The takeover brings us a big step forward and helps us consolidate our leading position in Europe.”
Founder and CEO Andreas Kitzing

Previously, Sponssa was part of founder Tiina Güttler's IT company Frostypeak, who says of the acquisition: "We are pleased to refer Finnish athletes and sponsors to Sponsoo as they can expect excellent service from the Sponsoo team. Sponsoo shares our mission to create opportunities for athletes and visibility for companies. I am confident that the acquisition will enable Sponsoo to do great things for the Finnish sports community in the future."

Additional momentum is promised by the involvement of Finnish serial founder Ilkka O. Lavas. He is joining Sponsoo as an investor with an undefined amount and will use his extensive network to further advance the sponsorship marketplace in Scandinavia.
