The medtech startup Sonia has raised 12 million euros in a seed financing round. Its success is thanks to an AI assistant that largely relieves teams in medical practices of their documentation work.

Sonia has founders with industry experience

The round involved venture capitalists UVC Partner, Lucid Capital and Blue Lion, as well as the City of Hamburg and the Luxembourg Ministry of Economy. Two experienced entrepreneurs are behind the startup, which was founded in 2023. Dr Johannes Jacubeit founded connected-health in 2014, which later became LifeTime GmbH. The business idea was based on the simplified exchange of health data via mobile phone. Philipp Kuhn-Réginier comes from zahneins, a leading German dental network, where he held various management positions.

With Sonia, they have developed an artificial intelligence-based assistant that supports practice teams in the entire documentation of treatment processes and consultations. With the help of AI speech recognition, a detailed, structured summary is created within seconds, error-free and independent of the practitioner's language level. This reduces the daily administrative workload by one hour and increases turnover by more than 10%, explains the startup on its website. Sonia is currently focusing on dentistry, but plans to expand its services to other medical disciplines and internationalise, starting in Austria.
