Hamburg Senate awards the IDEA prize for equality - up to €25,000 to win
The Innovation in Digital Equality Award (IDEA) honors innovation and commitment in the field of equality and gender equity in the digital space. The award is given in two categories and the application period runs until August 24, 2022.
Sponsorship award for ideas and concepts
The Senate of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg awards the IDEA sponsorship prize to innovative online tools, digital processes and procedures, or ideas for digital infrastructures that focus on the specific life situations of women and men and develop solutions for them.
Technical solutions and concepts developed in or for Hamburg by individuals, associations, organizations, institutions, initiatives and companies are eligible. Submissions can relate to all areas of life, offering creative digital innovations for everyday life or counteracting gender discrimination in a professional context. Both project outlines and already finished products, such as apps, websites or software, can be submitted.
The prize money for the IDEA sponsorship award amounts to a maximum of €25,000 and is to be used directly for the implementation of the award-winning project.
The second category in the IDEA Award honors women who are committed to equality and gender justice in the digital space or who have succeeded and established themselves in tech professions and similar fields that are still generally considered to be dominated by men. So the search is on for women who are role models. They can nominate themselves or be nominated by others.
The deadline for applications for both categories is August 24, 2022. The award ceremony is scheduled for November 1, 2022 and will take place at a Senate reception in Hamburg City Hall. Further information on the competition and its conditions of participation can be found here.
The award winners of 2019 and 2020
The IDEA awards will be presented for the third time this year. In 2019, the sponsorship award went to Claudia von Allwörden for an app concept for female founders and Anja Schumann for a project to reduce unconscious bias. The honorary award went to Dr. Diana Knodel, who supports digital education for children.
In 2020, the Social Developers Club for a project against gender bias and Dr. Miriam Stehling for a software for monitoring gender equality work shared the sponsorship award. Melanie Schütze received the honorary award for setting up the digital women's network nushu.
