German Social Entrepreneurship Monitor calls for participation
The German Social Entrepreneurship Monitor (DSEM) has been providing information on the German social entrepreneurship ecosystem since 2018. Initially published annually and since 2022 every two years, the monitor aims to provide decision-makers from politics, business and civil society with a basis for supporting social enterprises. The new survey phase has recently begun.
The DSEM is part of a European project
In addition to conventional indicators such as organisation size and turnover, it collects specific data relevant to the ecosystem, such as choice of impact models, types of governance, data on non-profit status or number of volunteers. Since 2020, the DSEM has been integrated into the European Social Enterprise Monitor (ESEM), funded by the European Commission.
The DSEM is carried out by the Social Entrepreneurship Network of Germany (SEND). SEND has set out to network and strengthen social enterprises and to give them a common voice. It has made it one's business to build bridges to politics, civil society, welfare and traditional business in order to drive positive change in our society and improve the framework conditions for social innovation. Currently, the network, founded in 2017, has more than 750 members, including numerous startups.
The questionnaire should take between 30 and 45 minutes to complete. All information is treated confidentially and is only published in aggregated form. Apart from Germany, another 30 European countries are taking part in the study. The results of the pan-European ESEM evaluation will be taken into account in the preparation of the European Commission's EU Action Plan for the Social Economy. This plan provides for more than 2.5 billion euros to be invested in the European social economy in the coming years.
