As maintained by a press article, Hamburg-based food delivery service Circus has received millions in a financing round. According to the report, the investor BlackMars Capital, behind which Northern Data founder Marco Beckmann is, 2bX, West Tech Ventures and business angels such as Lea-Sophie Cramer, Verena Pausder and Gunnar Berning are involved in the round.

The article by deutsche-startups talks about a total of 11 million euros. At Circus, freshly prepared meals can be ordered via an app. Smaller dishes for children are available for as little as 3 euros. The food is cooked in a so-called ghost kitchen, a restaurant kitchen that has neither a dining room nor service staff. The delivery area has so far been limited to just under a dozen districts of Hamburg. As a result of the funding, expansion to several locations beyond Hamburg's city limits is expected.

Circus 2021 was founded by Nikolas Bullwinkel, among others. His startup career began in 2019 at the Next Commerce Accelerator (NCA). Together with his co-founder Saad Saeed, he secured a spot in the funding program with the fitness app Crumb. They also founded Pickery, a grocery delivery service. This was at the time when Gorillas was making the first headlines and Flink was to be established in Berlin as a competitor to the fast delivery service. Since the Flink team lacked the appropriate software for this and Pickery could provide it, the Berliners took over the Hamburg-based company and Nikolas and Saad were given leading positions at Flink.

In his new startup, Nikolas Bullwinkel receives competent support from the well-known restaurateur Fabio Haebel. There is also some food expertise at play on the investor side. For example, Delivery Hero and Marley Spoon are part of West Tech Ventures' portfolio, and Verena Pausder has invested in the unpackaged delivery service alpakas.
