The German Startup Awards were presented for the sixth time in Berlin on 22 May. The competition is organised by the German Startups Association. A total of nine prizes were awarded. From Hamburg's point of view, the most pleasing award was that Dr Julia Freudenberg, CEO of the Hacker School, was named Female Impact Entrepreneur of the Year.

Over 500 guests attended the festive gala of the German Startup Awards at the TIPI at chancellery in Berlin. The award ceremony was opened with a speech by Federal Minister of Economics Katherina Reiche. ‘Capital is scarce, doubts are high, but belief in one's own vision is even higher,’ she said, summarising the mood in the startup scene. Dr Julia Freudenberg was voted Female Impact Entrepreneur of the Year in an online vote. The Hacker School, which she runs, was founded to get children and young people interested in programming. Low-threshold courses are in particular designed to reach girls and young people from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds as well.
