Boomerang receives six-figure investment for reusable system for shipping packaging
Hamburg-based startup Boomerang has declared war on single-use packaging in online shopping and developed reusable shipping bags and a deposit system suitable for this purpose. The company has now received its first round of financing for an amount in the upper six-figure range.
The round is led by FIVE Investments GmbH of logistics entrepreneurs Navid Thielemann (Overseas Logistic Services GmbH) and Christian Flick (Recht Logistik GmbH). Also involved are the business angels Nikolaus Bayer (Business Angel of the Year 2020) as well as Mark Miller (Hamburg), Alf Arnold (Business Angels Club Berlin-Brandenburg), Beate Rosenthal (Business Angel Rhein Main) and Dr. Gregor Heinrich (Business Angels Club Berlin-Brandenburg).
Boomerang's first pilot project will be with several online stores from the fashion industry, as the shipping bags are particularly well suited for clothing. They are much more space-saving than the usual cardboard boxes, can be folded to DIN A4 size and therefore fit into any mailbox. This is an essential criterion for unproblematic return shipping, which allows the three-euro deposit fee to be refunded. Made from recycled plastic, the bags can be used up to fifty times.
The co-founders came to Hamburg for Boomerang
Boomerang 2021 was founded by journalist Marc Engelmann after he became annoyed with the mountains of packaging boxes in his trash cellar. He found his co-founders Katherina Kreutzer and Christian Putz via the founderio platform. They were so convinced by the sustainable business idea that they spontaneously quit their jobs and moved from southern Germany to Hamburg.
