Success Stories Startups Ecosystem Hamburg

One of the highlights of the Hamburg Innovation Summit on 12 September will be the presentation of the Hamburg Innovation Awards, which will be presented in three categories. WACHSTUM is reserved for established companies. But START and IDEE are specially designed for startups in different phases of their business. In this article, we present all six nominees.

The nominees in the START category

The START category nominates startups that have already achieved their first market successes. This is particularly true for vilisto, founded in 2016. The company uses digital heat management to reduce energy consumption in non-residential buildings. The energy-saving solution works with intelligent thermostats that use patented, integrated sensors and self-learning algorithms to recognise room usage and control the temperature automatically. vilisto has already won a number of awards and closed a Series A financing round of 5 million euros in 2023.

casuu.care, active since 2024, offers non-native-speaking medical professionals virtual language and professional training that teaches patient-oriented German and medical standards. The training takes place in the country of origin to facilitate the transition to the German labour market. The use of artificial intelligence (AI) secured a place at the AI.STARTUP.HUB.

amsight is a Fraunhofer IAPT spin-off from 2023. The startup aims to make industrial 3D-printing as reliable and cost-efficient as conventional manufacturing through data-based process optimisation and the use of AI. One of the ways it aims to achieve this is by creating digital twins and using them to identify potential for improvement. amsight has received funding from the InnoFounder programme, among other things.

In the IDEE category, startups that are just starting out or are still in the founding phase are given a chance. This certainly applies to Wildvögeln, a new condom brand. It wants to draw attention through creative marketing and do good at the same time. For every condom sold, another one will be distributed to women in developing countries who would otherwise have no access to contraceptives.

The startup HIVESOUND is concerned with the well-being of bees. It has set itself the goal of digitalising beekeeping and ensuring better health for bee colonies and higher honey yields. To achieve this, it analyses a range of data, including the buzzing of the insects, which reveals a lot about their current state of health. HIVESOUND has also already received funding from the AI.STARTUP.HUB thanks to the use of AI.

The same applies to Presada. This startup uses AI to help company employees with presentations. The artificial intelligence performs several functions at once. Firstly, it checks the quality and meaningfulness of presentation slides. Secondly, it assesses the body language and speech patterns of live presentations. In both cases, it makes suggestions for improvement.

Juries have already decided in advance which startups will receive the award in each category. However, all nominees will appear at the Hamburg Innovation Summit and compete for the Audience Award. If you want to be there, Tickets are still available.
