The Hamburg Environment Agency and the Hamburg Investment and Development Bank (IFB Hamburg) are calling on companies and research institutions to participate in the new “Green Industry & Circular Economy Hamburg” funding initiative. The first projects are scheduled to start as early as 2026

The funding focuses particularly on small and medium-sized enterprises, including startups. Companies and consortia of companies and universities/research institutions with business premises in Hamburg are eligible to apply. Submissions are now being accepted. In order to assess the eligibility of an idea in advance, a 2–3-page project outline should be submitted by April 15. Interested parties can seek advice at a digital funding breakfast on February 24 (click here to register). After an initial consultation and positive evaluation, complete funding applications can be submitted. Since the first projects are scheduled to start at the end of 2026, the first funding applications must be received by IFB Hamburg by July 15.

  • Innovative processes and technologies for industrial applications, such as energy and material efficiency, process optimisation, emission reduction, and industrial AI.

  • Circular economy, innovative solutions for circular design (for example modularity, reparability, freedom from harmful substances), use of secondary raw materials (for example in the construction sector), waste prevention, and recovery of raw materials.

  • Innovative applications of energy sources, for example hydrogen, energy storage and battery technologies, power-to-X, carbon capture technologies, and alternative fuels.

“Climate protection and resource efficiency are the basis for tomorrow's prosperity. Raw materials are becoming increasingly scarce and expensive, often have to be imported, and are harmful to our planet in their production. Those who become independent and focus on the circular economy have a competitive edge. It is precisely this pioneering spirit in Hamburg that we want to strengthen with our new funding programme. We provide targeted support to companies and research institutions in making their production future-proof, so that smart ideas in the lab can quickly become successful products on the market.”
Katharina Fegebank, Senator for the Environment, Climate, Energy, and Agriculture
