A few years ago, it was all the rage for startups to launch a new gin. Many of them have long since disappeared into obscurity, but Spirit of Hafencity's 20457 Hafencity Gin, released in 2017, has stood the test of time. There are now a number of variations, and the range also includes an organic egg liqueur and two aperitifs with the beautiful name Mirativo. The maritime theme continues with fashion startup 8beaufort. The name is based on the unit of measurement for wind strength, with 8 representing stormy winds. Amateur sailors think twice before setting sail in such conditions. Which brings us to the most important component of 8beaufort sneakers: they are mainly made from discarded sailcloth. Launched in 2019 with the ‘Galapagos’ model, the label has established itself in a highly competitive market with its sustainable shoes and, since this year, even has its own store in Hamburg's new flagship shopping centre, Westfield.
Natural cosmetics from therefore beauty
The natural cosmetics startup therefore beauty has already had a turbulent history. It started in 2018 under the name terrorists of beauty, which attracted criticism, but also gained the brand many fans with its block soap reduced to the essentials. In October 2022, however, the name was blacklisted, making it impossible to advertise on social media. This made a relaunch as therefore beauty inevitable, which was accompanied by an expansion of the product range. Among other things, solid toothpaste and a moisturising spray are now available, each with an ingredient list that is as short as possible. All can be found at Hobenköök in the Oberhafenquartier, which is primarily a treasure trove for food startups.
