Hamburg is a winner of the EY Startup-Barometer 2022
Since 2014, the Startup-Barometer of the consulting firm EY has been considered a reliable source of information on startup financing in Germany. Now the figures for the first half of 2022 have been published, with the result that Hamburg is one of the winners in a nationwide comparison. One company in particular stands out.
2021 was a record year, 2022 has been a positive surprise so far
2021 was an absolute record year for the German startup scene. A total of €17.36 billion was raised in 1,160 deals. The previous peak value of 2019 was only 6.23 billion. More than 10 billion went to Berlin, while Hamburg had to settle for 459 million. In view of the global crisis situation, many expected a significant decline in 2022.
The interim results from the first half of 2022 are therefore all the more pleasing. Indeed, the Startup-Barometer records a year-on-year decline from 7.58 billion to 6.03 billion. However, this still means by far the second-best first half-year since the start of the surveys. There were even some winners among the German states, with Hamburg leading the way with a jump from 110 million to 414 million.
The Hamburg startup 1KOMMA5° of former Tesla manager Philipp Schröder played a significant role in this. The platform for climate-neutral energy solutions received 200 million. Only three Berlin companies obtained an even higher amount, with logistics company Forto and 229 million as the frontrunner. Consequently, the energy sector in Hamburg is the most successful, followed by the "Software & Analytics" category with 155 million. It takes first place nationwide with 1.81 billion, almost maintaining the previous year's result.
