Giving gifts and doing good at the same time is not a bad idea, especially at Christmas. In this article, we present five Hamburg-based startups that combine business acumen with commitment and enrich the gift table with their products.
Bracelets made from fishing nets by Bracenet
Discarded fishing nets account for a significant proportion of plastic waste pollution in the oceans. In collaboration with various environmental organisations, the startup Bracenet collects some of these nets and processes them into bracelets, key rings and shopping bags. Bracenet also offers many more items made from other materials with a maritime theme. Part of the proceeds go to marine conservation projects.
Impact Bundles from social product
At social product, every product is linked to a matching NGO, for example, laundry strips with Hanseatic Help (clothing donations) or tofu with the animal rights organisation PETA. An Impact Bundle, available in three versions, is recommended as a Christmas gift. The most lavish version, ‘All In’, contains seven products, from handkerchiefs to peppermint tea and egg liqueur. Of the retail price of 27.99 euros, 2.23 euros go to charitable causes.
Bags made from recycled plastic by WILDPLASTIC
Rubbish bags are not necessarily the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Christmas presents. But they are just as practical as socks and definitely more original. The Hamburg-based startup WILDPLASTIC manufactures these bags from so-called wild plastic, which has ended up as rubbish somewhere in nature, and offers them in the Mixbox Xmas Special together with vouchers and stickers If that's too prosaic for you, WILDPLASTIC also sells hand-signed art prints on the theme of environmental protection.
Event vouchers from mutly
mutly has set itself the task of making it easier for older people to attend events. Its services include a drop-off and pick-up service and personal accompaniment. The offer includes readings, concerts and even a disco evening for the over-60s. A voucher gives access to one or more events of your choice, depending on its value. Redemption is currently limited to certain districts of Hamburg, which can be viewed on the mutly website.
Juices and honey from Das Geld hängt an den Bäumen
The startup with the most unusual name in our list is probably Das Geld hängt an den Bäumen (Money grows on trees). What actually grows on trees is fruit that can be processed into juice. Honey lovers as well will find what they are looking for at DGHADB – we have just introduced the abbreviation here. Also here a gift voucher, available in denominations from 10 to 100 euros, is recommended as a present. Apart from that, the startup offers team events such as apple picking.
