Hamburg Innovation Award winner LUIS Technology ensures greater safety on the roads
The WACHSTUM category at the Hamburg Innovation Awards is reserved for established companies that have achieved success with innovative products or services. Nominated from the healthcare industry were Weinmann Emergency medical Technology with solutions for emergency medicine and altona Diagnostics, which offers PCR testing. The award went to LUIS Technology for its road safety improvements.
Founded in 1999, LUIS Technology has become one of Europe's leading manufacturers of camera-monitor and driver assistance systems. The company was the first supplier on the German market to receive general operating approval from the German Federal Motor Transport Authority for its TURN DETECT turn-off assistant. In the turn-off assist system, software differentiates between pedestrians and static and moving away objects. The system gives appropriate warning signals and solves the problem of blind spots.
Over the years, LUIS has continued to refine its technology. The latest achievement is a 360-degree system in which four cameras are equipped with an artificial intelligence-based object detection algorithm. The result is seamless person detection all around the vehicle with no perceptible latency. This enables real-time warnings.
The use of the new technology is particularly suitable for use in danger zones where a radar system would be useless because of the confined space. Examples include industrial trucks (vehicles used to transport goods horizontally) or construction vehicles. The system can be trained to the uniqueness of each work and hazardous situation and, thanks to cameras with high light sensitivity, works reliably even in low light.
