fobizz: counter the shortage of teachers with ChatGPT
With webinars, digital training courses and its own tools on ChatGPT, Hamburg-based startup fobizz, Germany's largest training platform for teachers, has hit a nerve. More than 15,000 teachers have already used the artificial intelligence (AI) learning offerings since January 2023.
Used correctly, students benefit from AI
Since ChatGPT was made available to the general public at the end of 2022, the use of the intelligent chatbot has been hotly debated. After all, it can create homework, assignments and presentations within seconds. New York City has banned ChatGPT from all schools for this reason. This is the wrong way to go, fobizz is convinced. It would make more sense to teach students how to use AI in the classroom.
And ChatGPT also offers great opportunities for teachers. For example, AI tools can become valuable sparring partners that assist with routine tasks such as formulating emails or creating worksheets, and even create entire lesson plans, thus relieving teachers. Relieving the workload is a compelling argument against the backdrop of the shortage of teachers, which is still the biggest problem in German schools. According to the German Education Association (VBE), there will be a shortage of 80,000 teachers nationwide by 2030. Added to this are challenges such as the integration of students who have fled Ukraine. ChatGPT can help to get more time for such challenges.
