5 chances for Hamburg to win at the German Startup Awards 2024
On 16 May, the German Startup Association will present the German Startup Awards for the fourth time. There are three candidates to choose from in each of eight categories and Hamburg is strongly represented with a total of five founders. In this article, we briefly introduce the finalists from the Hanseatic city.
A newcomer and an experienced founder
In 2023, Angela Relógio was already the overall winner of Female StartAperitivo and won the Health Innovation Award, among other things. Now the German Innovation Award (GSA) in the "Newcomer of the Year" category could follow. She owes the success of her startup TimeTeller to a method that determines the best individual time for cancer treatment.
The success story of Jonathan Kurfess and Appinio began ten years ago. In 2014, his idea of using an app to make market research faster, cheaper and more accessible was met with a great deal of scepticism. Since then, his company has acquired over 2,000 customers and employs more than 200 people. Jonathan is nominated in the "Founder of the Year" category.
Hamburg represented three times at "Impact"
While Hamburg is not represented in the "Investor of the Year" categories, it looks particularly promising in the "Impact" area. There are even two nominations for female entrepreneurs. Tatjana Kiel is one of the founders of the non-profit organisation Score 4 Impact GmbH. Her committed involvement in aid campaigns for Ukraine deserves special mention. Natalia Tomiyama is the managing director of NÜWIEL. Her startup contributes to the mobility turnaround with its electrically powered cargo trailer for bicycles.
Philipp Schröder has been nominated as an "Impact Entrepreneur 2024". The CEO and co-founder of 1KOMMA5° has turned his startup, which organises the conversion of private households to renewable energies, into a unicorn with a billion-euro valuation in just a few years. 1KOMMA5° is expanding worldwide and is aiming to go public in 2025.
