Hamburg's economy for a greener future

Whether wind and solar energy or the green hydrogen economy: the use of renewable energies is a prerequisite for an energy system of the future and at the same time forms the basis for the restructuring of the energy landscape of the Hamburg Metropolitan Region. The Renewable Energy Hamburg Cluster (REHC) is committed to further advancing the networking of people, ideas and projects and to intelligently linking all sectors and energy sources into an overall system. The agency has formulated a Cluster Strategy 2025, whose focal points include the topic of sector coupling and the development of a green hydrogen economy in the region.

Startups from Hamburg are energy pioneers

Some startups in the Hamburg region are already successfully driving the energy transition forward with their innovative ideas. For example, the startup suena has developed software that enables near-real-time optimisation of the use of energy storage systems. In addition, this promotes the profitable marketing of the generated energy through automatic communication, both with the energy plants and with the electricity market.

The Hanseatic City of Hamburg has a long tradition as an important port and industrial location and has many entrepreneurs who are future-oriented and forward-looking. This, along with new knowledge and intelligent technologies, is what is needed for a successful energy transition. The decarbonisation of the port, industry, logistics and air transport, the development of a green hydrogen economy and the goal of making Hamburg the international wind capital will also consolidate the position of the metropolis on the Elbe as a commercial and economic centre in the future.
