With the new funding program InnoImpact, IFB Innovationsstarter GmbH supports founders and founding teams of startups in the field of social entrepreneurship in the pre-founding and startup phase through a lump-sum personal grant. Innovative, public welfare-oriented startups and social enterprises from all sectors are supported. This makes Hamburg the first federal state to introduce a grant program specifically geared to social enterprises.

Up to 75,000 euros in funding possible

As of now, individuals or teams of up to three people can apply to focus entirely on starting their business during the grant period. The program is aimed at startups that have as their goal the solution of societal challenges, particularly in the social and environmental fields, and that thus contribute to at least one of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The grantees each receive a flat-rate personal grant of up to 2,500 euros per month to finance the costs associated with the startup project and living expenses. A maximum of 75,000 euros will be distributed in total.

The funding program implements an important measure of Hamburg's social entrepreneurship strategy. Opening up new financing channels for prospective and existing social enterprises is one of four fields of action in this strategy. InnoImpact also complements the existing startup funding programs of Hamburgische Investitions- und Förderbank (IFB Hamburg) and its subsidiary IFB Innovationsstarter GmbH.

“Hamburg plays a pioneering role in the promotion of social entrepreneurs nationwide. We are not only closing a gap in access to financing for social enterprises, but are also closely aligning innovation with social and ecological benefits. With the 'InnoImpact' program, we are making an important contribution to a livable and sustainable Hamburg. This is worthwhile for us - socially and economically.”
