Success Stories Startups Ecosystem Hamburg

Since its foundation in 2017, the Digital Hub Logistics has developed into one of the most important centers in Hamburg's startup ecosystem. This became clear once again at HubDay 2024, which went far beyond the topic of logistics. In the future, the hub will be given even more competencies, as signaled by a name change announced at the event.

The Digital Hub Logistics will also become a commerce hotspot

The new name is “Digital Hub Logistics & Commerce”. The connection between the logistics and trade sectors is traditionally close, as Hamburg's First Mayor Dr. Peter Tschentscher explained. The hub is therefore expanding its network and aims to further strengthen Hamburg's position as a location for innovation. This declaration marked the end of an event that was also rich in other highlights. For example, a presentation about an adventurous motorcycle trip from Halle to New York by a collective of artists, which showed parallels to the challenges of startup life, was very inspiring. In a quieter moment, Frie Bräsen, provost of the Protestant church in Altona-Blankenese, got the audience to sing the melody from a Mahler symphony with him.

A diverse programme and a hidden champion

Of course, there were also workshops and discussion panels focusing on logistics, but topics such as artificial intelligence, sustainability and change management were on the agenda as well. In a Logistics Battle, the participants demonstrated how well startups and corporates can work together. The winner was a team with representatives from the startup pickshare and the ZUFALL logistics group, which presented the latest developments in the field of last mile delivery of goods and parcels in cities. Marian-Maximilian Martens from MotionTools won the Logistics Hidden Champions Award for his special services to the Hamburg logistics community. The award was presented to him by Mayor Tschentscher.

For Julian Kakarott, who has been associated with the hub for years as a startup founder, it was his first major appearance since he officially took over as managing director in October. He and his team can be pleased with a successful event and tackle the new tasks arising from the expanded focus.
