Startup-Champs, the joint competition of the German startup capitals Berlin, Hamburg, Munich and Cologne, is entering its fifth round in 2024. This time, the search is on for the best up-and-coming companies in the fintech sector. The application phase lasts until April 1.

These are the application requirements

The aim of the competition is to give the German startup scene even more international visibility and to network founders nationwide. The following participation criteria apply:

  • The startup must have been officially founded no more than five years ago by the deadline of March 1, 2024.

  • It must have a branch registered in the commercial register in the economic region of Cologne, Hamburg, Berlin or Munich.

  • The business model or the products or services have a clear connection to the focus topic of fintech.

  • The startup demonstrably pursues an innovative and scalable approach.

  • A functional or demonstrable prototype or an already feasible or demonstrable service is available.

After the application deadline, the most promising candidates will be invited to a local selection event in their respective home city. Three startups per location will be given the chance to present themselves in front of an audience, which will decide who makes it to the final. The grand final will take place live at the fintech festival FIBE on April 24 and 25 in Berlin. There, the winners from the four cities will compete against each other and a high-caliber jury will select the overall winner. All twelve startups that make it to the semi-finals will each receive a FIBE ticket, and the four finalists will also have the opportunity to present themselves at SLUSH in Helsinki.
