Hamburg continues to develop into an important centre of the digital finance industry with financial technology companies known as fintechs. For the first time, the Fintech Monitor of Finanzplatz Hamburg e. V. counts more than 100 such startups in Hamburg.
When the monitor was first published in 2017, there were only just over 30 startups. The companies operating in the city cover a wide range of business models, demonstrating the high innovative capacity of Hamburg's financial sector. The InnoFinTech funding programme, which has been running since 2022 and will continue until the end of 2025 under the umbrella of the 2021-2025 Financial Sector Masterplan, has given the Hamburg fintech scene a noticeable boost. So far, 20 of the companies listed in the Fintech Monitor have received funding through the programme.
Fintech Hamburg and the Fintech Monitor are products of Finanzplatz Hamburg e. V. and present the diversity of fintechs operating in the metropolitan region in a virtual showcase. Fintechs as defined by the monitor are companies - especially startups - that are involved in the digitalisation of the financial sector. They are divided into the following categories: "Assistance & Self Service", "Finance", "Accounting & Taxes", "Banking & Savings", "Insurance", "Crypto", "Analytics & Research", "Trade Finance", "Brokerage & Comparison", "Payments" and "Retail Investment".
