WARGdrones receives six-figure financing for explosive ordnance clearance
In a pre-seed financing round, the Hamburg-based startup WARGdrones has raised a mid-six-figure sum. The backer is the BUHLMANN Group, a trading company for steel pipes, pipe fittings and similar accessories. WARGdrones aims to use specially developed drones to safely defuse explosive ordnance from the air and thus save human lives in crisis areas.
WARGdrones wants to help Ukraine defuse explosive ordnance
The startup WARGdrones, founded in 2019 and based in Hamburg and Oldenburg, is dedicated to developing automated drone solutions that are supported by artificial intelligence to enable complex tasks such as the neutralisation of explosive devices in war zones. One of its most important developments is the PEREGRINE drone, which is particularly useful for defusing unexploded ordnance and unidentified improvised explosive and incendiary devices. Aerial neutralisation significantly reduces the risk to civilian and military forces. The need for explosive ordnance disposal solutions is particularly high in Ukraine. Due to the war, parts of the country are contaminated with landmines and unexploded ordnance. WARGdrones is planning to help on the ground with its drones. The first delivery to Ukraine is scheduled for this year, with another planned for early 2025. The Ukrainian authorities have already reported the need for several hundred drones.
The BUHLMANN Group, which invested in the pre-seed round, not only plays the role of an investor, but also that of a strategic partner. The Bremen-based company has so far mainly operated in the field of steel tube production and vibration technology, but the war in Ukraine has also sparked interest in defence technology. The BUHLMANN Group has been involved in humanitarian activities in Ukraine since the beginning of the war and supports the ‘Solidarität Ukraine’ foundation, among others.
