More startups for the digitalisation of Hamburg's administration
How can the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg make better use of the innovation potential of startups? Since April 2022, there has been the GovTecHH project, which networks innovative startups and the Hamburg administration according to the venture clienting principle and accompanies cooperations. With the integration of GovTecHH's offering on Startup City Hamburg, startups can now easily and systematically contact Hamburg's Public Venture Client Unit.
What GovTecHH does
GovTech stands for Government Technology and as a cipher for digital technologies and innovative solutions that add value to government and administration. Startups in this field often offer efficient and fast solution developments that are currently too often disregarded. The municipal Venture Client Unit, located in the Senate Chancellery, closes this gap by identifying challenges and seeking suitable market solutions together with districts, specialised authorities and state enterprises. GovTecHH accompanies the entire process with all parties involved, from the market exploration to the legally secure, substantive design of the cooperation.
First project is award-winning
One example of a cooperation accompanied by GovTecHH is the piloting of an AI-supported solution for translation of texts into plain language on the city portal hamburg.de. By integrating the solution from the startup SUMM AI into the city's editorial system through the Senate's press office, texts can now be translated for editorial review and subsequently published in just a few minutes. As a result, this means a greater range of accessible content for citizens while reducing costs per standard page. SUMM AI and the Senate Press Office received an award at the re:publica 2023 digital conference as part of the Civic Innovation Platform (CIP) competition of the German Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs for the project idea of also automatically illustrating texts in plain language using AI.
