5 vegan food startups from Hamburg
Vegan foods are more popular than ever before. A distinction is made between veganised products that replace their animal equivalent and products that have been completely reinvented. However, there is no lack of creativity in the production of either variant. Here are five Hamburg startups that make a vegans' heart beat faster.
ThatsKimchi
THATs KiMCHi. brings the original Korean cabbage dish kimchi to Hamburg. Following in the footsteps of his mother's homeland, co-founder Guido has set himself the goal of bringing a piece of Korea to Germany. In addition to the eponymous product, the startup also sells vegan mayonnaise, umami salt and pickled radish (kkakdugi). The ingredients for THATs KiMCHi. are mostly sourced locally and then prepared according to a vegan family recipe (without fish sauce).
Hansegrün
Ginger shots have become a real trend food in recent years. The founders of Hansegrün have taken the healthy drink one step further. They offer ginger shots that you can mix yourself. Thanks to the new preparation method, ginger lovers no longer have to carry a number of small shot bottles home, but can instead prepare and portion their drink from the comfort of their own home. Hansegrün has now even expanded its range to include several other healthy drink powders.
el Snackie
The name of el Snackie already gives you an idea of what you'll find in the bag: a traditional Mexican snack! The crispy corn pretzels are actually called "chicharrones" and have long been a real hit in Mexico. There you can find them on almost every street corner at a bicycle stand and get the snack served directly with lime and chilli sauce. Thanks to El Snackie, we can now enjoy chicharrones from home, chilli sauce included.
coconilla
Even as a child, founder Kathi wanted to have her own patisserie - and she has fulfilled this dream with coconilla. The food startup produces vegan bars that are perfect for snacking between meals. The cake and cookie bars taste of coconut, salted caramel or strawberry cheesecake, for example. In addition to the purely plant-based ingredients, the snacks from coconilla are also organic, gluten-free and contain no refined sugar.
Plant B
If you're a vegan and don't want to miss out on the pleasure of a delicious breakfast egg, you may have already come across Plant B's products. The egg alternative from the Hamburg-based startup is made from regionally grown lupins and is suitable both as a baking ingredient and as a direct substitute for egg dishes. The company is particularly concerned about its contribution to the environment, as the Plant B Egg consumes on average 87% less CO2 and 99% less water during production than a chicken egg.
