2 startups from Hamburg that use AI for horse welfare
The health and well-being of their animals is an important concern for all riders and horse owners. The Hamburg startups ACARiS and Animalytics take this into account with their apps. The fact that they also rely on artificial intelligence (AI) has enabled them to secure a place in the current batch of the AI.STARTUP.HUB.
ACARiS
With the HORSE PROTECTOR, the startup ACARiS offers a solution for monitoring horse stables that combines hardware and software components. High-resolution cameras monitor what is happening in the horse stalls and stable alley 24 hours a day. The image data is evaluated by artificial intelligence, which can identify signs of possible illness based on movement and behavior patterns. The software also recognises the beginning of a birth. The results can be called up at any time via an app. Founder Dr. Arne Rasmus Dräger has a doctorate in physics and has been working with AI for almost ten years. He plans to expand ACARiS' offering to include livestock farming in 2024.
Animalytics with Happie
The Happie app from startup Animalytics also provides information on horse health and uses AI as well. However, riders must actively participate in the collection of data on factors such as body temperature, pulse, respiratory rate and weight. The app also offers numerous other functions such as feed and training plans, gait analysis, GPS tracking and access to exercise videos. The history of Happie goes back to 2016, when the app was launched under the name HorseAnalytics. In 2019, the company changed hands and finally changed its name. There have long been plans to offer a similar service for dog owners.
