The European Football Championships and the Olympic Games 2024 are history, but sport remains a topic that dominates the media. The startup scene is also involved in the world of sports in a variety of ways. MiniJim, PuttView and YAB Fitness are three examples from Hamburg.
MiniJim
Physical education is important for children's development, yet it is often neglected in schools. The startup MiniJim, founded in 2022, wants to make its contribution to better organising school sports and has developed the MiniJimBox for this purpose. It contains 3D-printed miniature versions of sports equipment that can be used to put together a training course. This makes it easier to set up the actual course and allows pupils to be involved in the planning. A free app provides additional assistance for lesson planning.
PuttView
In golf, the last few metres to the hole are often the most difficult. Putting is an art in itself and requires both nerves and practice. The startup PuttView helps you practise with a combination of hardware and software. The most important tool is a pair of augmented reality glasses that visualise the ideal stroke in the natural environment, both outside on the golf course and indoors. Top international players use the technology from the startup founded in 2015, including two-time U.S. Open winner Bryson DeChambeau and 2016 Olympic champion Justin Rose.
YAB Fitness
In March 2020, Christian Polenz made his big appearance on the startup show ‘Die Höhle der Löwen’. He was able to impress with an innovative dumbbell, even if it wasn't quite enough to secure the deal in the end. The special thing about the dumbbell from YAB Fitness is its shape, which enables several grip and holding variants that influence the subjective perception of weight. The founder had the original idea back in 2013 and completed the first successful tests in a Hamburg gym at the end of 2015. In 2016, the dumbbell won prizes at the ISPO and FIBO trade fairs.
