A well-functioning startup ecosystem is characterised by the key players joining forces to create optimal conditions for support. This is precisely what the cooperation between Innovations- und Förderbank Hamburg (IFB), IFB Innovationsstarter GmbH and the Startup Factory Impossible Founders aims to achieve.

Partnership for sustainable strengthening of the ecosystem

The Hamburg Investment and Development Bank (IFB Hamburg) and IFB Innovationsstarter GmbH have been supporting startups for many years through various funding programmes. Impossible Founders (IF), one of ten new Startup Factories nationwide that began operations in 2025, has set itself the task of promoting the establishment of deep tech startups in Hamburg. The partnership between the three institutions is based on a shared conviction that Hamburg's startup ecosystem has great potential that can be strengthened through joint action.

“The cooperation with Impossible Founders is an important step towards supporting startups in Hamburg even more targeted and pooling existing resources in the ecosystem more effectively. The cooperation combines funding, transfer and capital – and makes Hamburg even more accessible for founders.”

What exactly does that mean?

The aim of closer cooperation is to provide guidance, simplify processes and open up access:

  • IFB Innovationsstarter GmbH is the most active investor in startups in Hamburg and coordinates the Hamburg Investors Network (HIN) and the Sartup City Hamburg platform.

  • As a deep tech factory, Impossible Founders strengthens the transfer of knowledge from universities and research into scalable companies.

  • Funding, capital, transfer and consulting are coordinated rather than fragmented.

  • The cooperation lays the foundation for closer coordination in innovation promotion – from initial orientation to possible financing.

  • In future, those interested in funding will receive more targeted information, potential will be identified at an early stage and projects will be further developed through exchange.

“Hamburg has excellent research and strong capital partners. With this cooperation, we are systematically bringing both together – for more successful spin-offs.”
Arik Willner, CEO of Impossible Founders
