In May, the German Startup Association published the GreenTech Monitor 2026 and named Hamburg as one of the industry’s strongholds with 170 companies in this seminal sector. In this article, we’ll introduce three of them: Eternal Power, nOa climate, and repath.
3 Hamburg-based GreenTech startups in the energy sector
Eternal Power
The team at Eternal Power, armed with extensive entrepreneurial experience, has big plans. It is targeting a market projected to generate annual revenue of well over 1 trillion U.S. dollars by 2050: green hydrogen. To produce it, the company plans to develop, finance, build, and operate its own production facilities. Corresponding projects are underway in seven countries across Europe and South America. The current focus is on a facility in Dummerstorf (Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania). Subject to secured financing, up to 8,500 tons of green hydrogen are to be produced there annually starting in 2029; in the long term, the company even aims for an annual capacity of up to 30,000 tons.
nOa climate
The startup nOa climate specialises in the development, manufacture and distribution of micro biogas plants that convert organic waste into renewable energy and organic fertiliser. The facilities provide people with limited access to electricity with an affordable, off-grid energy source. As part of a project in Cape Verde, nOa climate helped to operate eco-friendly toilets, amongst other initiatives. In Kenya, a biogas plant supplies energy for cooking and heating water, whilst the fertiliser is used for a village community’s vegetable gardens and fish farm.
repath
repath is one of the most successful Hamburg-based startups in the GreenTech category. In September 2024, it announced the completion of a seed financing round totaling 3.6 million euros. repath’s platform is designed to address the challenges posed by climate change. It does this through an in-depth analysis of energy infrastructure at the facility level, based on scientific data. By precisely identifying facility-specific vulnerabilities, repath enables energy companies to implement targeted resilience strategies. Its clients include companies such as Enel, UK Power Networks, Energy Infrastructure Partners, John Laing, and Denham Capital.
