Job offer
Strategic / Technical Founding Engineer

Available from May 26, 2026

About itemary

itemary is an app that simplifies selling used items. Take a photo, get a description and price suggestion, prepare the listing — done. Our goal: selling in seconds instead of hours.

From a technical perspective, we are building the infrastructure behind this process: from the mobile app to analytics pipelines and services capable of handling large amounts of product data and marketplace logic. Our focus is on fast product iteration and a long-term scalable architecture.

Your role

We are looking for a technically strong generalist who is excited to help build itemary from the ground up. Not just in a traditional engineering role, but as someone who actively shapes technical decisions and helps evolve the product together with the founding team.

What matters most to us is that you enjoy product engineering: testing quickly, learning from real users, building pragmatic solutions, and at the same time creating a solid technical foundation.

You will help us bring itemary’s technical vision to life: from MVP decisions and rapid iteration to scalable systems for growth, data processing, and user retention.

What you’ll do

  • Strategically shape the technical development of itemary

  • Rapidly test features with users and improve them iteratively

  • Further develop the mobile app (React Native / Expo)

  • Expand backend services and analytics pipelines (Go, Cloud Run, Cloud Tasks)

  • Scale and improve the existing infrastructure on GCP for long-term growth

  • Balance technical decisions between speed, product quality, and scalability

  • Contribute to future systems such as the product database, marketplace integrations, and retention features

  • Define product priorities and technical roadmaps together with the founding team

What you should bring

  • Strong technical generalist profile with a good product mindset

  • Enjoyment in building products quickly and improving them directly through user feedback

  • Interest in taking technical ownership in an early-stage startup

  • Experience with modern web, mobile, or cloud stacks

  • Understanding of when pragmatic MVP solutions are appropriate — and when systems need to become more robust

  • Interest in architecture, scalability, and system design without unnecessary overengineering

  • Enjoyment in thinking about technical and product decisions together

  • Interest in topics such as recommerce, sustainability, or consumer apps

Nice to have

  • Experience with React Native, Expo, or Supabase

  • Experience with Go or event-/queue-based backend systems

  • Experience with Google Cloud Platform

  • Experience with data-intensive or ML-adjacent services

  • Experience in early-stage startup environments or building digital products

  • Interest in AI-supported workflows or automation

What we offer

  • A high degree of ownership and creative freedom in an early-stage startup

  • Direct collaboration with the founding team

  • Space for your own ideas and technical experiments

  • A role as Founding Engineer or CTO

  • The opportunity to shape the product, architecture, and team from the very beginning

  • Real technical ownership instead of isolated ticket work

  • The chance to actively contribute to a more sustainable recommerce ecosystem

Company details

Everyone has them at home: second-hand items nobody uses anymore. Selling them is a hassle — taking photos, writing descriptions, and listing them separately on every platform.

With itemary, that’s a thing of the past.

Just one photo is enough: the app recognizes the item, automatically creates a complete sales listing, and - if you want - even publishes it directly to marketplaces like eBay or Vinted.

What used to take minutes of work per item now takes seconds. That’s how we help bring second-hand goods back into circulation.
